Real estate listings in Pasadena, CA deserve more than pretty pictures. They need pro architectural photography that captures the home's character, shows off its best features, and gives buyers a reason to schedule a showing.

I'm Kasi Liz Hyrapett, founder of Kasi Liz Photography + Marketing in Pasadena, California. I've professionally photographed more than 1,000 homes, and my experience in real estate goes much further back than my architectural photography business.

In 2026, professional real estate photography remains one of the smartest ways Realtors can make a strong first impression.

Thankfully, my background makes a meaningful difference for Realtors, brokers, builders, and property owners throughout Pasadena, Glendale, and the greater Los Angeles area.

Why My Pasadena Real Estate Photography Starts With Understanding the Property

One of the biggest differences between hiring me and hiring someone who simply knows how to operate a camera is my background in real estate.

I didn't begin my career photographing houses…I actually started by researching them and even buying one!

I spent years studying homes before I started photographing them

My real estate career began in 2005, working in residential appraisals around Los Angeles County + nationwide.

I researched comparable sales, inspected homes, measured properties, reviewed appraisal reports, wrote appraisal reports, and studied endless MLS listings.

I've driven through neighborhoods looking at comparable properties, walked through unfamiliar floor plans, and paid close attention to the features that distinguish one home from another.

That experience changed how I look at residential architecture.

When I enter a home with my camera today, I'm not just looking for an attractive sofa or an impressive kitchen. I'm thinking about the entire property.

How does the floor plan flow? Where does the natural light enter? What makes the architecture interesting? Which features deserve more attention?

Most importantly, how can I communicate these details through professional photographs for real estate marketing?

A good real estate photographer can produce attractive images. I believe an excellent architectural real estate photographer should also understand what those images need to communicate.

I've photographed more than 1,000 homes throughout Los Angeles

I launched Kasi Liz Photography in 2014, building on years of experience in Southern California real estate.

Since then, I've photographed more than 1,000 homes, from modest properties to architecturally distinctive luxury homes.

That kind of experience teaches you things you won't necessarily learn by watching photography tutorials…

For example, a smaller bedroom may require a different approach than a sprawling primary suite. A dark Craftsman living room presents different lighting challenges than a modern home with floor-to-ceiling windows. Proper editing is super important.

Sometimes the most important photograph isn't the widest or brightest one. It's the image that best explains how a room works.

I also understand that Realtors are marketing real property, and these photos will potentially go on expensive, multi-page cardstock property brochures (which I also help with).

My goal is to make the real estate property look its best while preserving a believable sense of its appearance, proportions, and character.

After all, the home buyers visit should match the home they admired online.

I've also been on the Realtor's side of the transaction

In 2014, I worked briefly as a California real estate salesperson with Keller Williams in the Arcadia area.

I learned firsthand about the responsibilities of real estate agents, working with buyers, communicating with clients, and presenting homes for sale.

I've also been a real estate investor, managed rental properties, attended open houses, and personally shopped for homes throughout Southern California.

These experiences help me understand the pressures that come with bringing a listing to market.

Realtors need attractive photography, but they also need someone who understands why timing, accuracy, presentation, and professional communication matter.

Architectural Photography for Real Estate That Portrays Pasadena's Unique Character

Pasadena isn't just another Los Angeles suburb with rows of interchangeable houses, it’s also my home! It's one of SoCal's most architecturally interesting cities…

Many Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Colonial Revival homes to Mid-Century Modern residences and historic estates are here, so Pasadena has an extraordinary variety of residential design.

The City of Pasadena's architectural history and preservation resources explain how these styles helped shape the city's identity.

Having spent years living and working around Pasadena and Glendale, I appreciate how much local architectural character matters.

A Craftsman house in Bungalow Heaven deserves a different photographic approach than a sleek contemporary residence in the hills or a Spanish-style home near the Arroyo Seco.

I photograph architecture, not just furniture

Architectural photography is about more than making rooms appear bright and spacious.

I pay close attention to the design of the home itself.

That includes:

  • Architectural lines: Keeping walls, doorways, cabinets, and structural details visually balanced.

  • Composition: Choosing camera positions that show relationships between rooms without creating distracting distortions.

  • Natural light: Using available light thoughtfully while managing difficult highlights and shadows.

  • Architectural features: Highlighting original woodwork, ceiling details, fireplaces, built-ins, windows, and other distinctive elements.

  • Room proportions: Making spaces look appealing without misleading buyers about their actual size.

  • Indoor-outdoor connections: Showing how patios, gardens, balconies, and living areas work together.

I don't believe every room should always be photographed from the farthest corner with the widest possible lens…

Yes, wide-angle photography has its place in real estate. But excessive wide-angle distortion can make rooms appear strangely stretched, furniture look tiny, and interiors feel less natural.

Good composition is more thoughtful than that!

My three-question approach to photographing a room for real estate photography

When I'm deciding how to photograph a space, I think about three things:

  1. What am I showing? The photograph should clearly establish what the room is and highlight its most important features.

  2. How does it connect? Whenever possible, I want viewers to understand how the space relates to adjoining rooms, windows, doors, or outdoor areas.

  3. What makes it memorable? Maybe it's the morning sunlight, the exposed ceiling beams, a beautiful fireplace, or a carefully designed kitchen.

This approach helps create a collection of photographs that tells a more complete story.

A listing gallery should feel like a thoughtful walkthrough of a home, not a random assortment of images.

Pasadena's lighting and architecture require experience

SoCal sunshine is wonderful, but it can also make architectural photography challenging.

A room with bright west-facing windows may have intense afternoon sunlight. A covered Craftsman porch can create deep shadows…a home surrounded by mature trees may receive beautiful, filtered light but need careful exposure.

These conditions influence the final photographs…!

I use natural and ambient light with custom editing to bring out the atmosphere of a home while keeping the images polished and realistic.

I also consider the surrounding property…

A Pasadena home with a welcoming front porch, mature landscaping, and original architectural details may need exterior photographs that give those features room to breathe.

A hillside property might benefit from compositions that emphasize its views and connection to outdoor living spaces.

The property should guide the photography, not the other way around.

For real estate photography, I notice the little things before they become big distractions

I've walked through enough homes to know how much a few misplaced objects can change a photograph for real estate marketing.

A crooked lampshade. Tangled cords. A distracting trash can….too many things sitting on a kitchen counter!

They're small details, but once photographed, they can compete with the architecture for attention.

I'm really attentive to these details when composing images and preparing rooms, so it can take a little more time…

I'm also a firm believer in working with the homeowner, agent, or home stager to get the property camera-ready, so I always provide a pre-shoot checklist to the listing agent.

The National Association of Realtors' 2025 Profile of Home Staging reported that 83% of buyers' agents said staging made it easier for buyers to visualize a property as their future home.

That makes sense to me.

I have a close friend who works professionally in home staging, and our conversations about design and presenting properties have reinforced something I've learned through photography: the best results happen when staging and photography work together.

You don't have to renovate every room or spend a fortune on furniture.

Sometimes a carefully placed chair, decluttered countertop, or better furniture arrangement can make an enormous difference.

Real Estate Photography and Marketing: Why Working With Kasi Liz Offers More

There's another reason I approach architectural real estate photography differently. I'm also a professional real estate copywriter and marketing strategist.

In 2018, I founded The MLS Writer, a copywriting service that helps Realtors create compelling property descriptions and other real estate marketing materials.

That means I look at listing photography as one part of a larger marketing plan.

Beautiful photography should support the entire listing

A typical real estate photography assignment ends when the finished images are delivered.

But what happens after that?

The agent still needs to create the MLS listing, promote the property, advertise an open house, prepare social media posts, and perhaps produce brochures or postcards.

I've worked on these materials myself, so I understand how photographs fit into the broader marketing process.

For example, a professional photograph of a sunlit breakfast nook can support an MLS description that highlights the home's inviting daily living spaces.

A thoughtfully composed image of a covered patio can reinforce marketing copy about indoor-outdoor entertaining.

A strong exterior photograph can become the centerpiece of a Just Listed postcard mailed to homeowners throughout the neighborhood.

The photographs and words should reinforce one another.

I understand what attracts attention to online real estate listings

The National Association of Realtors discusses the importance of strong listing photographs, detailed property information, and coordinated marketing in its guide to maximizing online visibility for real estate listings.

Buyers often form their first impression before attending an open house or contacting a listing agent.

That means the quality and order of the photographs matter.

In my opinion, an effective listing gallery should help buyers answer important questions quickly.

What does the home look like from the street? How do the main living spaces connect? What condition are the kitchen and bathrooms in? What interesting features might not be obvious from the basic listing facts?

I also believe the first photograph deserves special attention.

It should make someone curious enough to explore the rest of the listing, while accurately representing the home.

No photographer can guarantee that better images will sell a property faster or increase its final price. Pricing, location, condition, market conditions, and the agent's work all play major roles.

But professional photography gives your marketing a stronger starting point.

Real estate photography, copywriting, and marketing under one creative umbrella

Through Kasi Liz Photography + Marketing and The MLS Writer, I help real estate professionals with more than their listing photographs.

Depending on your project, additional services include:

  • Custom MLS property descriptions written for clarity, persuasion, and accuracy.

  • Professional property brochures and neighborhood postcard mailers.

  • Real estate website copy and SEO-friendly blog content.

  • Agent biographies and local business marketing.

  • Photography for residential listings, rentals, and architectural spaces.

You don't have to use every service.

Some Realtors only need architectural photography. Others appreciate having professional writing and marketing support available when their workload gets overwhelming.

The benefit is consistency.

Your photography, property descriptions, and printed marketing can tell the same story instead of feeling like unrelated pieces created by different people.

My work goes beyond luxury homes

One misconception about architectural photography is that it's only necessary for multimillion-dollar homes with designer interiors, but I think good photography matters for modest homes, condos, townhouses, rentals, and smaller residences, too.

A charming Pasadena bungalow might have original hardwood floors, beautiful windows, and a cozy front porch worth highlighting.

A Glendale condominium might offer an efficient floor plan, balcony, updated kitchen, and wonderful natural light.

A professionally managed rental property may need appealing photographs that help prospective tenants understand its layout and condition.

Each deserves careful attention!

As someone who has invested in real estate and managed rentals, I understand that property owners care about costs and results. I'm not interested in overselling a property that isn't right for a prospective buyer or renter.

I want to present its actual strengths in a way that encourages the right people to learn more.

Serving Pasadena, Glendale, and greater Los Angeles

Being based in Pasadena allows me to work with Realtors and property owners throughout the surrounding Los Angeles area.

I'm familiar with neighborhoods and communities such as Old Pasadena, Bungalow Heaven, Madison Heights, South Arroyo, South Pasadena, Glendale, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, San Marino, and the broader San Gabriel Valley.

Each area has its own architecture, street character, and housing styles that I often adore.

For real estate listing agents, this local familiarity can be helpful when photographing older residences, newer construction, hillside homes, investment properties, or buildings with distinctive architecture.

Although my photography services are local to the Los Angeles area, The MLS Writer's copywriting and marketing services are available to Realtors and businesses nationwide. I’m also available to travel nationwide for larger photography projects, usually for commercial work.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring a Pasadena Real Estate Photographer

Is architectural photography worth it for an average-priced home in Pasadena, CA?

Absolutely. I believe architectural photography is valuable at nearly every residential price point.

You don't need a luxury estate or a famous architect's name on the plans to benefit from thoughtful composition and professional lighting.

Smaller homes can actually require extra care because every photograph needs to communicate space efficiently. My goal is to create a gallery that highlights the property's actual strengths, regardless of its listing price.

What makes architectural photography different from regular real estate photography?

Regular real estate photography often focuses on documenting the main rooms and exterior features as efficiently as possible. Architectural photography pays closer attention to structural lines, visual balance, design, lighting, materials, tighter crops, and how spaces relate to one another.

For real estate listings, I combine these approaches. The images need to be beautiful, but they also need to help potential buyers understand the property!

How should Realtors prepare a home before professional listing photography in Pasadena?

I recommend having the home cleaned, decluttered, and ready before the photography appointment. Kitchen countertops should be tidy, beds made, bathroom items put away, and unnecessary objects removed from floors and tabletops.

It's also helpful to check that light fixtures work, window coverings are accessible, landscaping looks presentable, and cars are moved from important exterior views when possible.

If the property is vacant, consider whether professional staging or a few carefully selected furnishings could help demonstrate the room layouts. The more prepared a home is before I arrive, the more attention I can give to photographing its best features.

Can Kasi Liz Photography + Marketing also write my MLS property description?

Yes! This is one of the advantages of working with me. Through The MLS Writer, my expert copywriting team provide professional real estate copywriting services, including MLS listing descriptions, property marketing copy, and promotional/print materials.

My background in real estate appraisals, photography, and professional editing helps me recognize details worth mentioning. Photographs create visual interest, while a well-written description explains the home's features and helps buyers understand what makes it special.

The goal is accurate, appealing, and persuasive marketing that works together!

How do I choose the best real estate photographer in Pasadena?

Start by reviewing a photographer's actual real estate portfolio, not just their most impressive exterior or luxury kitchen image. Look at bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, smaller homes, and properties with difficult lighting.

Ask yourself whether the rooms appear realistic, well-composed, and inviting…

I also recommend asking about photography experience, editing style, scheduling, deliverables, image usage rights, and what is included in the quoted price.

Most importantly, choose someone who understands your goals as a listing agent and communicates professionally.

For me, real estate photography is about helping Realtors confidently represent their properties, making them look like a hero to their clients…(not simply producing a collection of attractive pictures).
